Marbling Magic: Intro to Paint Marbling

Welcome to the magical world of paint marbling! In Leah's Mindful Marbling workshop (featuring the ancient Japanese art of suminagashi), you calmly fall into the meditative back and forth of the ink-laden paintbrushes tapping the surface of your water. With paint marbling, based on the Turkish ebru, you'll feel like your flying through a circus tent of swirly colors as you add and manipulate paint colors on the surface of thickened water!

During this beginner-friendly 2-hour workshop, Leah McKnight will introduce you to the magic of paint marbling. First, you’ll learn techniques to create a variety of different patterns. Then you’ll be free to relax into the flow of marbling to create 5 pieces of marbled paper. Finally, you’ll use everything you learned to marble a fabric hand fan.

In this workshop, you will:

• hear about the history of paint marbling,
• learn the basics, including supplies and techniques for different patterns,
• practice releasing expectations and going with the flow,
• create your marbled art with your choice of paint colors,
• take home your marbled papers to craft with or frame, plus a marbled hand fan to keep you cool in the Austin heat!
• see examples of crafts you can create with your marbled paper, and
• leave with the knowledge to continue making more of this mesmerizing art on your own.
